Others gave the Burner District a try. During the summer of 1889 McAfee worked a number of claims. In 1892 Strickler came back with Wellington Dove, a prominent Tuscarora mining man, and they hauled ore showing values in silver, gold, lead, and Page 14 iron via Iron Point to the Carlin Sampling Works. Before the vein disappeared in late 1893, more than $15,000 worth of ore had been shipped to the Selby Smelter in Salt Lake City. L. Snider, the Tuscarora postmaster, but little came of the venture.

W. Parsons, practiced there. The town became a stop on the Northern Stage Company's western branch, and the fare from Tuscarora to Columbia was four dollars. Clay Irland, a Columbia resident, drove the twice-a-week stage, carrying mail and passengers. The Infidel mine and mill, under the supervision of Joel Meacham, employed most of the eighty miners in the district. Other producing mines at this time included the Maggie, the Comet, the Thomas Paine, the Bonanza, and the Bonanza Queen. A post office opened on February 24, 1879, with Thomas Smith as postmaster, and a school was built in 1880.

Shortly after Cope's discovery, other prospectors filed claims along BlueJacket Canyon and nearby Columbia Creek. A town that provided virtually all the supplies for mines and miners developed at Columbia. By July 1871 five mining companies were working mines in Blue Jacket Canyon. They were the Blue Jacket, the Johnson, the Ontario, the Nevada, and the Fifteenth Amendment. The Blue Jacket mine was by far the most productive mine in the area, and a small camp, named Blythe City after the owner, Thomas Blythe, formed nearby.
