The desire for capitalist values by the indigenous people who participated in the colonial administrative system induced a willingness to get the little education that was provided as long as it gave them some kind of power, the power that even enslaved them.

In the hardest-hit countries, substantial numbers of teachers are ill, dying or caring for family members. The epidemic is significantly contributing to shortages of teachers in Zimbabwe, thus affecting the quality of education.
